Welcome, Summer

Thursday, June 21, 2012

We ushered in the first day of Summer yesterday morning with donuts from our donut maker.
Donuts with cinnamon and sugar or chocolate icing, lots of sprinkles and milk in
Sesame Street glasses-- because it just tastes better that way.

After swim lessons we came home, watered the garden and flowers, packed our
lunches, gathered towels and sunscreen and headed to the pool.
There was nowhere else to be today with a high of 95*, besides the pool.
It's hot-hot-hot here in Central Illinois, friends.

We swam for hours--I must have heard at least one hundred times;  "mommy, look at this" and
"mommy, watch what I can do".
We floated and played Marco Polo, did water ballet, practiced the back float, did one hundred cannonballs
and wore ourselves out.
And if you ask me, that is the very best way to start Summer.

We all came home a little sunburned(despite applying sunscreen twice), very tired and happy.
We somehow managed to get the kids in bed by 7:45, which never happens, and I sat down on the couch to watch Dallas
at 8:00--
a perfect ending to a wonderful day.

What is your very favorite Summer activity--that thing you look forward to all year long?
I guess I would have to say that mine is swimming.
Since we only have swimming weather a few months out of the year I think that makes me love
it even more.

Happy Thursday to everyone out there.
Is tomorrow really already Friday?
