Distractions :: Pumpkin Patch

Thursday, October 11, 2012

I've got a problem.
Whenever I have a LOT going on, like this week, I always find a way to add more craziness to the mix
to either distract myself or to keep myself in denial about all the things I should be doing.
I'm pretty sure it's denial.

There are countless school things going on this week; a class field trip today, birthday treats to bake for Charlotte's class
on Friday, the kindergarten play on Friday and Lego Club tonight at school.
We are also having the kid's Birthday Party here at the house Friday night and I have not even started to get ready for it...
or shop for it...or clean for it.
So, Wednesday after school, just to throw off the whole after school/supper/homework/bath routine I
thought it would be a good time to take a trip to the Pumpkin Patch.
See what I mean?

Oh, but it was so worth it.
Seriously, I think I love going to the pumpkin patch just as much, if not more, than the kids do.
We had the place nearly to ourselves since it was after school and not the weekend when everyone else
is there. {Yuck}
It really was the perfect distraction though-- and plus, we needed pumpkins anyway : )

Sigh.
Now I'm thinking I want to move to the country and grow pumpkins.
I like to fantasize about the romantic side of farming, not the real side, so don't burst my bubble here.

Okay so I really do have about a million things I really should be doing instead of editing pictures so I will have to finish
these up later.
Come back tomorrow and I will show you the polka dot shirt I made Charlotte and the mini pumpkin pies I made last night...
because what do you do when you have a to-do list a mile long?
You bake little pumpkin pies, of course.
Happy, happy Thursday.

I think before the weekend is up there will definitely be some pumpkin bar making in my near
future and watching You've Got Mail... at least once.
I also need a really good book to get under the covers and read at night this week... and that
slow cooker apple butter(above) would be really good with some homemade bread this week, too.
Ahhhh, Fall... I do love you.

Hello, October

Sunday, September 30, 2012

October is here, which might just be my very favorite month of the year.
Now it really feels like Fall, like officially, although we have been having Fall-like weather for
a couple of weeks now.
Yesterday we took advantage of the weather and the fact that we had nothing going on and went
for a little hike.
It was so pretty.

Now I feel like I can bust out the Fall decorations this week, I am excited.
Time for pumpkins and orange and acorns....I love all things Fall.

Some of my most favorite things about Fall...

white + orange pumpkins
falling leaves
new boots
pumpkin spice lattes
fall-colored nail polish
a trip to the pumpkin patch
scarves
caramel apples
pumpkin bars
fires in the fire pit
s'mores
Halloween candy

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

What are your most favorite things about Fall?
Tell me.
Your favorite Halloween candy?
Mine are those god-forsaken Reesee's pumpkins. Yum.
Happy October 1...and have a great Monday.

{An Autumn List}

Monday, October 4, 2010

Since we are officially into October now...
Welcome Autumn.
So happy you are here.

*******
We celebrated the first day of Autumn with a special family dinner.
I made dinner and the kids helped set the table and made
a special centerpiece of acorns and buckeyes.
We lit candles and all used real wine glasses. We are brave.

I absolutely love Autumn, I really do. But sadly, it is just way too short.
It feels like no sooner does Autumn start than it is over and Winter is showing her face already.
And I am usually not near ready to see her face.
This season goes quick so we have to savor it and squeeze in as much as possible.
So I made a list.
Of things we hope to do, make and see this Fall.
And it's a lovely little list.

 My Autumn List:

Visit the Pumpkin Patch
Buy mums for the front porch
Buy myself a new pumpkin candle
Make a pumpkin pie
Go on as many afternoon walks with Charlotte as possible
Collect buckeyes
Have friends over for fondue
Make pumpkin bars
Buy a new scarf
Make a new wreath for the front door
Make (and drink) mulled cider
Celebrate both of my kids' Birthdays
Eat apple pie
Carve pumpkins
Go to Boo at The Zoo
One more trip to the Apple Orchard
Eat a double-dipped caramel apple with nuts
Watch You've Got Mail (the perfect Fall movie) at least once
Decorate for Halloween
Attempt to make vegetable pot pies
Go to a football game
Try this drink at Starbucks

So, there's my list.
I just love all the changes a new Season brings... in my old age I have decided it is
best to embrace these changes since there is no beating them.
And yes,  I do realize that a month from now I will be whining for
daydreaming of Summer. But for now,  I am so ready for Fall.
Bring it on.
Do you have a list?
What's on yours?

Leaves, Leaves, Leaves.....

Sunday, November 1, 2009

We spent the morning raking up leaves...and leaves and more leaves. They look so pretty on the trees and they are so much fun for the kids to play in but MAN, that's a lot of leaves. Which means a lot of raking. And bagging. But remember how much fun it was to jump in the leaves after your parents raked them up in big piles? And just walk through them, kick them, throw them...and have leaf fights? Our leaves are still a little wet because we have had so much rain lately but it didn't seem to bother the kids. Too bad we can't still burn leaves because I LOVE that smell and it definitely brings back many childhood memories.

After a relaxing Sunday I am headed out on a date--dinner AND a movie while the kids are with their grandparents. hOoraY!!! We are finally seeing The Informant, which was filmed here where we live and although it has got mixed reviews I must admit I am super excited to see it because of the food--
my brother prepared the food for one of the scenes. Exciting!
