My Mom Thinks Blogging Is Weird.

Friday, February 10, 2012

Ha. She does though.
And I can talk about her because she would never read my blog.
She can't understand why people would put all of their business out there for strangers to
read, she doesn't get it.
I have to say, before I was a blogger myself I couldn't quite imagine sharing some of the
things I have here with strangers either.
And another thing?
I might have even thought it was a bit strange that the bloggers I did follow thought they were
friends with the other bloggers, like real friends.
I might have kind of even thought to myself;
Oh, that's kind of sad, don't they have any real-life friends?
Because these online friends they don't really even know, they are not like REAL friends....

I was wrong.
Happily wrong and happy to admit it.
There are so many positive things I have to say about blogging, so many benefits.
Besides the countless things I have learned about myself--
So many people who have become real friends, through blogging...and instagram and Flickr...
and this whole crazy little online world.
I wouldn't have it any other way, I feel so lucky.
I was thinking about this already because of Leslie's comment in my guest post at Annalea's
yesterday, because I agree completely.
These are people I never, ever would have met...because of location, age, living circumstances...
so many things that make us different but deep down we are all so much the same, it is a
wonderful thing, it really is.
It makes the world seem so much smaller and so much more connected and I LOVE that.
Love, love, love it.
I can't say that enough.

Then this morning the mail comes and look what I opened up...
Eeeeeeek.
These books are from my friend Shauna, who I have never met in "real life" and maybe
never will.

I guess you know what I will be doing this weekend, huh?
I cannot wait.
I am already fantasizing about going to bed early tonight just to read.
Yay!

  4. Isn't blogging the craziest thing? I have four friends that I met through blogging that all live in my town! And not all of them did originally...totally a God thing and now they are some of my dearest friends. We always laugh when people ask how we met and most people think it is weird with a capital W! We even did a blog meet up two years ago where people came from literally all over - Australia, California, the South, Midwest, Washington...and then there are the bloggers you will probably never meet but just admire and think they are so lovely that you wish you could be friends in real life! Sorry for the rambling post...I do think the relationships you develop are the coolest things about this crazy blogging world...sorry for the super long comment!

  6. I recently found out that my mom DOES read my blog and that made me feel a little weird. But I then I thought that maybe it's a good way for her to get to know me a little more. Either way I'm glad I never dissed my mom on there ;)

I've just started MockingJay. I LOVE them! I also love that a Bloggy friend sent them to you. I need some bloggy friends like that LOL!

    Have a super duper weekend!

  8. My mother in law judges me because I blog. Thinks life should be private. I say life is about sharing your journey. What in the world is wrong with that?? LOVED those books. You will devour them. Even my oldest read them...can't wait for the movie.

  9. Ohhhh...The Hunger Games series is SOOOOO good. Your whole world will stop until you finish the last book. Then and only then will you resume your normal activities. It's that good. Enjoy your weekend reading! And I bet your mom reads your blog. How could she resist?!

  10. I feel the exact same way about blogging. I actually feel I am more the real me on my blog than the me I am in real life.

  12. this is funny because Les and I went to panera last night to chatter away and that comment that she made on there came up. we were just agreeing that you are one of our favorites because of your honesty. there is this fine balance in blogging you know? not to just air your dirty laundry but also not to just share ridiculous boringly perfect stuff. so. just so you know, two 30 something mommies in california had good words about you last night.

  13. Well of course I feel the same way about blogging. And I may have even thought "those" thoughts about bloggers being sad, but I was wrong. And happily wrong, too.

And you have been a treasure in getting to know. :)

    Happy Friday, chica!

  14. I haven't read The Hunger Games series yet, but my 5th grader has and he LOVED them. He's looking forward to the movie coming out... I need to start reading them before I take him to see it! Great comments about this blogging world! I'm fairly new to this whole experience, but I've already "met" some really great people!

  16. I think my mother would agree with yours about blogging. She doesn't "get it", either, but fortunately for both of us, I don't think she reads mine very much anyway. :)
