Life Lately...

Tuesday, April 19, 2016

Life lately has been Spring sloooowly, slowly creeping in.
It has been longer evenings and the start of soccer practice(for both kids this Spring!)- the first couple practices were FREEZING but it seems like that has changed now. Thank God.
Life lately has been swimming two nights a week and purging + organizing this old house of ours.
Life lately has been picking flowers and playing in the backyard.
Life lately has been basketball games with cousins and finding a $20 Starbucks gift card from Christmas you forgot all about.

Life lately has been little reminders that my boy might be growing up but he is still super sweet to his Mama. Usually.
Life lately has been lots and lots of books and little succulents everywhere.
Life lately has been exploring on of our very favorite parks with cousins and finding a small field of blue bells.
Life lately has been my first Sunday morning coffee on the front porch and new magazines to drool over.
Life lately is the sweetest dog ever and finding him(once again) in the funniest places, thinking that he is more human than animal.
Life lately has been EVERYTHING in bloom- flowering and green and growing.

Life lately is reminding myself everyday to find the beauty in the busy, stressful and sometimes ugly.
It is stepping back to see how much there is to be thankful for and happy about every single day and to teach my kids to do the same.

Life lately is good.

Life Lately In Pictures

Friday, July 10, 2015

Hey there and Happy Friday!
This was a short work week for me as I was in Chicago on Monday but sometimes those weeks feel
the longest. And this one definitely did. Sunday I was in Chicago for the last Grateful Dead show and I will write a post about that next week when I have time to process it all....Oh, what a night.

I am still without my Macbook so blogging is sporadic and all my pictures here are iPhone pictures.
Booo. Since I have nowhere to upload my pictures I just haven't even been getting my Nikon out at all
and I really miss using my real camera.

Things have been too busy and weekends have been too full to figure out what I am doing with my laptop- also a part of that is straight up denial mixed with a little bit of fear.
There's a pretty good chance I lost everything on it and that it's going to cost an arm and a leg to fix.
Life as a grown up. Ughhhh. It kinda sucks really.

Life lately has been busy and full and RAINY. It literally seems to rain every single day, and I am not even kidding about that. This mama needs the sun and hot weather and to actually be able to get into the swimming pool.
It has been filled with; music, books, friends, rain, donuts, work, Minecraft(and more Minecraft...and then some more), road trips and cloudy gray skies.

We are all trying to hang in there and hope that the forecast for next week looks better than it has in the last few weeks. The thing about working is that I am able to feel less guilty when I get to do fun Summer-like things with the kids after work, like swimming and picnics and short road trips and water slides, and so on. This Fall-like weather is not helping my mama and it's it helping us mark anything off of our Summer List either.

Hope you all have a great weekend- and I hope it is not raining where you are!

Life Lately...

Life lately in pictures looks like....
A homemade fruit pizza made by the kids and I tonight- a little on the naked side(all we had was kiwi & strawberries!) but still super YUMMY!
Sometimes I buy ready-made crust but this time I made my own sugar cookie crust and the crust was so much thicker and maybe even better.
It looks like reading in the backyard together. And Stanley does not want to be left out of anything
at all. Also, he'd really like an ice cream cone of his own, because he's a smart boy.
It looks like... My roses finally blooming.
Check out my peace rose, you can't tell that good in this picture but all the edges are pink. So cool.
It looks like a hand-lettering kit I ordered last week from Prairie Letter Shop.
This weekend I am going to get in some practice. Fun!
This week there was just a little bit of time for junking, I love searching through piles
and stacks, inside and out. The older and rustier the better.
Life lately looks like... Reading on the porch swing.
By myself and in the evening reading Bambi with the kids as well.
I am trying to get back in the habit of reading aloud with them and I am making a Summer
Reading List for them and for me. Also? This book(below) was good and weird... But good.
Oh and pretty creepy.

Life lately looked like our annual Memorial Day family get-together that was cut a little short
due to my little lady coming down with the flu. It's no fun throwing up outside in the heat, and even worse when there is no running water to clean up with after. Poor baby.
Life lately looks like this yummy new cocktail that might just be my new Summer drink.
Grapefruit vodka with grapefruit Vita Ice(or something similar would work) over ice.
Super good and refreshing. Also- cute gold-rimmed thrifted glass for the win, it's my
unofficial cocktail glass.
Life lately looks like about 500 school/end-of-the-year things and summer camp scheduling...
and list making and teacher gifts and on and on.
Ugh.
But I got a new calendar and I am checking things off my list.
AND, only 3 more days of school.
Life lately looks like...
Lots of blue + yellow.
Fields of golden rod and the kids in front of an awesome wall we came across last weekend.
Maybe my favorite color combo ever, it just kinda screams Summer.

You know this is just a TINY bit of my life lately... it's not all picture perfect, because no one's life is.
And personally, I don't really want to take pictures of the ugly stuff.
Oh, it's there, and I acknowledge it, but don't nobody want to see  some of this week's ugly in pictures.
Grumpy, crying mood-swings(me)? No thanks.
Quite possibly the largest most painful under the skin pimple I've ever had?
Uh... no.
My Mac book that crashed?
Definitely not.

Remember that when you are looking at other people's pictures and reading other people's words
on social media. It's a tiny slice, not the whole story. Thank goodness, huh?

Happy Friday + have a great weekend!

{Virtual Coffee} The "Come On Already, Spring!" Edition

Tuesday, March 24, 2015

Good morning.
It's Tuesday morning again, how about some coffee?
Last Tuesday over coffee, I mentioned that I was on the couch under a blanket having coffee and I remember thinking, while I typed that, that I really hoped that by the next Tuesday(today) I would be out on the front porch having my morning coffee.
No such luck though as today is another dreary + cloudy day.
Maybe next week? Fingers crossed.

"So yeah, no nice + sunny Spring weather here this week although we did have some nice weather over the weekend. I think we are just all so over Winter and ready to be outside in the sunshine enjoying the weather and getting fresh air. It's near the end of March now... we are ready.

So if we were really having coffee this morning we would surely be chatting about what we did over the weekend, huh? How was your weekend? Did you do anything fun?
We had a good weekend, it went too fast, just as every single weekend does, but good nonetheless.
Saturday morning I had to make a quick trip to the store for milk and toilet paper and I left with tulips for myself. Usually I buy myself the clearance bouquets but I decided I needed tulips this time, so I treated myself. I really wanted yellow but they didn't have any so I settled for pink.

It was just the kids and I this weekend and it was a full couple of days, we had a lot of fun.
Friday night we went bowling with my brother and my nieces, Saturday Charlotte had a new friend over to play and Saturday night Wyatt went to a birthday party sleepover.
Saturday night Charlotte and I snuck out in our pajamas to get ice cream and we took Stanley along for the ride with us and learned that he's really not the best car rider yet. Oh, Stanley.
Good thing that boy is so cute!

 {after we saw Cinderella}

Sunday afternoon Charlotte and I saw Cinderella.
Have you seen it? Do you have any desire to see it?
I liked it, we both liked it a lot and I think the original Cinderella has always been one of my favorite Disney movies since I was a child so I was curious how this new version would be.
I wasn't disappointed, Charlotte and I both liked it a lot.
More importantly than the movie itself, it was nice to go do something with just Charlotte and I...
If I'm honest I will tell you that sometimes in the back of my mind I think I had better do these things with the kids while I can because I am afraid one day I am going to wake up and they will be teenagers and want nothing to do with me(for a few years anyway)... Just like that.

Over coffee this morning I might just get a little deep on you about this whole motherhood thing.
It is exhausting. Mentally. I am always second guessing myself...
And then in the next moment I believe I am doing ot just right... not perfect, but just right...
The best I can.
Some days I worry over all of the little things-
Why doesn't she ever seem to play with anyone at school?  Why isn't he 'getting' his math?
And the next moment I laugh it off knowing that she is good, she is awesome and her own person and she will be just fine. She is better than just fine. And so is he.
We bring all of our own insecurities into this parenting thing, even when we try not to.
Some days I want my kids right next to me forever and the next moment I want to get away from everyone and everything and think some thoughts all my own.
Please tell me that I am not alone... That this craziness of motherhood is universal.

My coffee is just about out and I think I have rambled on long enough....
I am thinking that today might require a second cup of coffee... this no sunshine thing is rough in the
mornings in a serious way.

Thanks for stopping by here today + thank you for listening to me this morning.
What is going on in your world today? This week?
Do you have a Spring Break coming up or have you already had it?
Somehow I just realized my kids are out of school all next week for Spring Break... Whoops.
I guess someobody hasn't been paying enough attention to the 1.5 million papers comingh home from school, huh?

Have a great Tuesday, friends.

Insta-Week :: Whew. It's Friday.

Friday, October 11, 2013

It's Friday.
FRIDAY!
I'm happy, but the amount of things I have to do this weekend is stressing me out just a bit...
The kids' Birthday Party is tomorrow and I realized last night that the only thing I have for it so far is one package of napkins.
ONE PACKAGE OF NAPKINS.
Oooops.
Did you hear me say that the party is tomorrow?

It's getting a bit ridiculous, the lack of blogging or even blog reading going on over here.
I kinda hate to hear people always complaining about being "soooo busy"... because really, who isn't?...  But that is exactly how I feel lately.
Helping at the restaurant and school stuff and life stuff and feeling like I am constantly running around... It's just a bit too much for me.
Plus, I just really, REALLY need to get organized and then things would be so much smoother.
I need someone to come in and organize my life. Seriously though.
Wouldn't that be nice?

A bit of our week via my phone, people, because that Nikon sure hasn't been getting used much lately.

Lunch at a Vietnamese place with Eric-- way out of my comfort zone, but yummy.
Flip flops still in October? Yep.
 Me & Charlotte
Coffee + a new magazine = Bliss
Taking a walk
 Thrifting
Old catholic school
Cousins at the playground

My "office" in the dining room at TapRoot
Me & Wyatt on a pizza date
My mom's Birthday cake
Daddy reading before bed
SOLO drive. Yesssss.
My grandma's old Brownie camera
Veda checking out the pumpkins
Coffee on the front porch

Coffee on the street heading up to the restaurant.

That's it for me today...
My baby girl turns SEVEN on Sunday... that's on my mind a lot...
Just how fast time goes, how she is growing up and looking so old... I know it is all inevitable,
but I wish things would slow down just a bit. Just a bit.

Happy Friday everyone!
Hope you all have a great weekend!
