DIY /// Hillbilly Pumpkin Spice Latte

Wednesday, October 17, 2012

Hey there.
So, you might have heard me mention my homemade Hillbilly Latte before and today I thought I would show you
how I make my own Pumpkin Spice Latte at home.
It's pretty simple and I am sure there are many much better recipes/ways to do it out there, so if you have any suggestions
or tips,  let me know.

*While I am typing this I am listening to 80's alternative on Pandora and Crowded House's
"Don't Dream It's Over" just came on,  and I just had the weirdest flashback of listening to this at home in
my bedroom on a TAPE PLAYER trying to picture what my life would be like when I was a grown-up.....

I used Target's Pumpkin Spice coffee that I got from my Fall Swap partner(if she blogs I don't know it but she really spoiled me
though with all kinds of really fun stuff!) otherwise I might not have ever tried it.
I know some people use pumpkin pie filling/puree in theirs but since I already had the pumpkin spice coffee I skipped it because
I didn't want it to taste too pumpkiny.
So I made espresso as usual and because my milk steamer on my espresso maker does not work,
I heated the milk in a pan on the stove, I always use skim milk.
You could also use your steamer or microwave to heat it.

Normally, when making my Hillbilly Latte, I don't put whipped cream on top but a frothy milk topping.
Since the frother/steamer thing on our espresso machine is broke I make my own, you can read more about that here... talk about Redneck.
But today I used whipped cream and lots of cinnamon because I can never have too much cinnamon,
then I added a tiny pinch of nutmeg and pumpkin pie spice.
Just a pinch or two to taste.

And that's it, there's my version of a homemade Pumpkin Spice Latte.
What do you think?
Do you like the Pumpkin Spice lattes?
What is your favorite holiday/seasonal drink or treat?

I have to say, Winter is not exactly my favorite season but I do look forward to
Starbuck's Peppermint Mocha, it just kinda makes the snow, freezing weather and holiday shopping just a little bit more bearable.

  1. Oh it just kills me that I don't like coffee because I really want to like that!

  2. I held out trying the famed Starbucks Pumpkin Spiced Latte for two reasons - 1. Pumpkin isn't my favorite and 2. I only allow myself so much on my SB card every month. I wasn't sure it was worth spending my precious allowance. Well, I finally gave in and tried one last week. It was okay. I wanted to love it but it was just okay. At least now I know, right? Now, the peppermint mocha? LOVE! I get my first one on Black Friday and I can't wait! :)

  3. sounds delightful...I want some now. Mica

  4. That is kind of genius, and I seriously have to try it! Thanks!

  5. A girl after my own heart! I love pumpkin spice lattes and when I order them from Starbucks, a rare treat as we don't live within 100 miles of one right now, I have them add a couple of pumps of either caramel or vanilla. Yum! But really, I long for the peppermint mocha season. SO YUMMY! And in truth, you can order one of those any time of the year from Starbucks as they usually have the peppermint syrup year round, but somehow it's not the same unless it's in a red cup! :) Thanks for sharing this!

  6. I'm sipping on a pumpkin spice latte as I read this! I'm excited to try it at home :)

  7. YUM!! Actually I'm not a big fan of the after-taste of the starbucks pumpkin spice, but I like making my own.

  8. love it! i'm a starbucks barista and i always think it's so fun when people get creative and figure out how to duplicate it at home..gonna try this one for sure :)

you'll be happy to know the peppermint mocha toppings have arrived in our back rooms and will be out soon, yay! (you can actually get pep mochas yr round though...just a fun fact for your tuesday ;))

  9. FOUND IT! I have been drooling over Alicia's coffee photos all week, now I can make my own! However there is so much more to your site then hillbilly coffee, looking forward to following you.

leave me a know you wanna.
