Road Trip Adventure:: Amish Country

Thursday, March 24, 2011

Tuesday we headed out on a little Road Trip Adventure this week to Arthur, Illinois; a little Amish town about 40 minutes from us. Complete with horse & buggies, people in traditional Amish dress and horse-pulled plows.  If you're looking for a post that goes on and on about what a wonderful day we had, how well-behaved the kids were and that I enjoyed a quiet,  peaceful drive there and back....sorry folks, you came to the wrong blog today. I will tell you this: at one point I considered pulling over into an empty parking lot off  the highway to dump the kids off. Yeah, it was that kind of day.

The bright spot was that I did get some good photos and that we found a cute antique store and got
 to see a little glimpse of a whole different way of living, the kids especially loved the horse & buggies.
The kids did not get their dollars to spend and I just got a couple easter cookie cutters like my mom had when we were little, bunnies and eggs. The antique shop had a lot of cool stuff, a little overpriced
but now I can't stop fantasizing about a canister set I saw there for my kitchen.
Oh and the VW bus...sigh. I have always wanted a VW, this one was in great condition and so cute.
The sticker on the back says "Grateful Dad" instead of Grateful Dead.
I'll take mine in baby blue or red though, please and thank you.

  1. My hometown in PA is very near the Amish Country - when you see them all the time you forget how charming it all is. Some beautiful shots here - thanks for reminding me of home. You did bring the kids home with you - right? Just checking ;)

  10. I always love your pictures! I just had to comment on the Dublin Dr. Pepper, made right here in Texas. We visited the Dublin manufacturing plant a few months ago and it was really fun!
