Best. Day. Ever.

So, you know how when you are a kid and your parents never let you do certain things so you think these things
are really, super cool to let your kids do when you are the parent and make all the rules?
Yeah, that's kinda the rebellious child in me talking I guess.
Anyway- I have been telling the kids all school year that they each get one day to play hooky, one day that they are not sick
in the least bit  that they can miss school. Just because.

Wednesday Wyatt had a doctor's appointment out of town so we decided it was a great day for him to
take his "free day".
We left at about 9:30 a.m. and didn't get home until 7:00 that night.
It was a full day and it was just the two of us which is really rare, like super rare... and maybe it has never actually
happened before. I'm sure it hadn't.

Our first stop was the Illinois State Capitol building.
It was busy and crowded and I really, really wished I could get in there by myself with my camera and
just look around and take pictures forever.

This was just our first stop-- there was also The Illinois State Museum, lunch, The Military Museum, the coffee shop for
coffee &  dessert and then finally the book store before we headed for home.
Wow. We crammed a lot into one day, huh?

Wyatt told me multiple times that this was "the best day ever" and thanked me for everywhere I took
him and everything we did. That boy is so sweet and appreciative. I love that boy.
We have to go back in 6 weeks for another appointment and he is already planning what we can do that day.
There is a whole lot more pictures form the rest of our day but I'll save those for another time.
It really was the best day ever, for both of us.

******
Happy Sunday.

  2. Sounds like a really great day! I did that back in January - a Wednesday in the middle of our week-long cold spell. I declared a cabin fever day, stayed home from work and called my son in sick to school. We watched videos, played games, read books, played on the computer, made art, ate junk food. It was fabulous! I highly recommend taking a "day off".

  5. it's crazy to me how much better that day was for him than anything else. 10 times better than anything they could talk about at school. one on one time is so very special.
when my kids are thankful, i have this super predictable "mom" response. i say,"you're welcome. there's nothing in the world like a grateful kid" and my kids say it with me, its so predictable....there really is nothin' like it.

  6. I think you are a great mom: what a perfect idea and day. I will keep it in mind, I think it is important to remember to spend some alone-time with each of our kids.

I often take days off just for fun, but we stay home, not go out!
