Fall List :: The Pumpkin Patch

So we actually knocked something off of our  Fall List...  it might only be the second thing, Pumpkin Spice Lattes being the first...
but we've got plenty of time for the rest. Right?
Sunday was Charlotte's Birthday and she requested a trip to the Pumpkin Patch, so to the Pumpkin Patch we went.
It was a beautiful Fall day, perfect for picking pumpkins... sunny but not hot, almost a tiny chill to the air when you were in the shade.
Perfect day.
Perfect way to celebrate my girl's special day.

This is one of my most favorite times of the year... I am so happy Fall is here!
The weather, the temperature, the clothes, the pumpkins, the colors... all of it.
OH-- and I can't lie, I do love the Halloween candy, pumpkin flavored everything and of course the double-dipped caramel apples with nuts.
Yum.

Simple Things :: An Empty Pumpkin Patch

A couple of weeks ago now I took the kids to the Pumpkin Patch right after school--  note to self : 

never go again on the weekend if you can help it.

There was only maybe two other families there when we were and it was so nice.

Can you tell I'm not really a crowd kinda person?

It was so empty, in fact,  that I had no problem wollering on my stomach to get some of these pictures.

Had it been crowded I might have been a little too self-conscious for all that.

But this day...perfect weather and perfect light.

Sigh.

I am loving the white pumpkins this year.

And the gray ones... and the warty, bumpy ones.

For some reason it still amazes me that these things all come from a seed, survive the elements,
 the seasons and even a draught and make so many people happy.

Seriously.

Sometimes the littlest, simplest things make me the happiest.

Distractions :: Pumpkin Patch

I've got a problem.
Whenever I have a LOT going on, like this week, I always find a way to add more craziness to the mix
to either distract myself or to keep myself in denial about all the things I should be doing.
I'm pretty sure it's denial.

There are countless school things going on this week; a class field trip today, birthday treats to bake for Charlotte's class
on Friday, the kindergarten play on Friday and Lego Club tonight at school.
We are also having the kid's Birthday Party here at the house Friday night and I have not even started to get ready for it...
or shop for it...or clean for it.
So, Wednesday after school, just to throw off the whole after school/supper/homework/bath routine I
thought it would be a good time to take a trip to the Pumpkin Patch.
See what I mean?

Oh, but it was so worth it.
Seriously, I think I love going to the pumpkin patch just as much, if not more, than the kids do.
We had the place nearly to ourselves since it was after school and not the weekend when everyone else
is there. {Yuck}
It really was the perfect distraction though-- and plus, we needed pumpkins anyway : )

Sigh.
Now I'm thinking I want to move to the country and grow pumpkins.
I like to fantasize about the romantic side of farming, not the real side, so don't burst my bubble here.

Okay so I really do have about a million things I really should be doing instead of editing pictures so I will have to finish
these up later.
Come back tomorrow and I will show you the polka dot shirt I made Charlotte and the mini pumpkin pies I made last night...
because what do you do when you have a to-do list a mile long?
You bake little pumpkin pies, of course.

{I Heart Fall}

I'm not really even trying to knock things off of my

 Autumn List

but I can cross off several already.

I made these pumpkin bars. Yum.

Tried this at Starbucks yesterday. Yum.

And we made a trip to the Pumpkin Patch last week.

We made a quick trip to our local Pumpkin Patch because I wanted 

pumpkins for the kids' Birthday Party this past weekend.

We'll go again to get our pumpkins for carving later.

Oh, how I wish I lived on a farm and had my own little pumpkin patch.

Wouldn't that be fun?

I mean, a lot of work, but fun, too.

We went after school and there was hardly anyone there, not crowded at all. We had the slide and the maze and the climbing thing to ourselves. It was fun and peaceful and it was a gorgeous Fall day. 

We won't even talk about how I made a wrong turn when we left though, just because I was
daydreaming and it added about a half hour onto our drive home....oops.
Other than that and the fear that I might really run out of gas, it was perfect.
You know, not perfect-perfect but perfect enough for me.

I love the white pumpkins, and the gray-blue ones. I love the bumpy, warty-looking

 ones and the bright orange perfectly shaped ones.
I just love how my pumpkins and mums look on the front porch.
I love the leaves and the acorns, all of it.

 I love Fall, I really do.

This gorgeous tree is right in my very own backyard.
We can see it form two of the upstairs bedroom windows.
We live in a 90+ year-old house whose backyard has been
sorely neglected for maybe the last twenty years.
At least.
Trees, grass, bushes, all of it...just ignored.
This tree is definitely the high point,  but I'll take it.

Is it Fall where you are? I really hope it is.

If it's not I would totally send you a big box full of leaves, acorns and buckeyes in the mail.

I really would.
